Composition: A Visit to a place of Historical Interest/Importance

A place of historical significance (গুরুত্ব) always attracts me. Whenever I get a chance to visit such a place, I become very delighted (আনন্দিত). During the last winter vacation, I had an occasion to visit the Mazar of Saint Khan Jahan Ali and Shat Gombuz Mosque at Bagerhat. I along with four of my friends went there by launch on the 1 February. These sites bear testimony to the preaching (প্রচার করা) of Islam during the reign of Mughal Dynasty in India. With a view to preaching Islam, Khan Jahan Ali settled (বসবাস করা) in Bagerhat and did many noble deeds for public welfare.

The Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali stands on a high terrace at Bagerhat. The tomb was built with cut out stones. One cannot say accurately (সঠিকভাবে) from where these stones were supplied. Some people speculate (চিন্তা করা) that Khan Jahan Ali brought these stones from Chittagong by river. On the tomb there einscriptions in Arabic. A big fair is held beside the Mazar every year on the night of the toon in the month of Chairta, Many visitors go there everyday to seek divine (স্বর্গীয়) blessings.

 

The salty (লবণাক্ত) water of coastal district Bagerhat could not be drunk by the people of that locality. Khan Jahan Ali dig some new tanks and excavated (খনন করা) some old ones to remove the problem of drinking water of the people. There is a big lake like tank in front of the Mazar. It is one of the big tanks dug by him. There are some crocodiles (কুমির) in it.

We stayed there for sometime and watched the worthy sights Then we left for Shat Gambuz Mosque. This is about three kilometers away from the Mazar. The Shat Gambuz Mosque is in a larger building. Actually, it has seventy seven domes and not sixty domes, as the name indicates. Some people say that it was used as a mosque by Khan Jahan Ali. It turns to be attractive to a large number of visitors and tourists of home and abroad.

After visiting the place we returned home. But it will not be possible for us to forget the memories of the place.
