Bangladesh- A Country of Communal Harmony

Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony (সম্প্রতি). People of different castes and creeds live in this country in the midst (মাঝে) of communal harmony. In fact, the socio-cultural set-up of this country is suitable (উপযুক্ত) for communal harmony. This country achieved freedom from Pakistani rule and became independent (স্বাধীন) on 16 December 1971. Bangladesh has a rich cultural heritage. But the ethnic people and the tribal people living in the hilly areas have their own cultural heritage. The constitution of this country safeguards secularism (ধর্ম নিরপেক্ষতা) for the people of all religions. So though about 90% of people are Muslims, Bangladesh believes in secularism since its independence. The Muslims, the Hindus, the Buddhists, and the Christians live in peace and amity (বন্ধুত্ব). In fact, Bangladesh is a role model for other countries in respect of communal harmony. Eid-ul Fitre, Eid-ul-Azha, Durga puja, Saraswati puja, Maghi Purnima, and X-mas Day are now the national festivals (উৎসব) of the country. Because people of all ages and occupations (পেশা) enjoy all the religious (ধর্মীয়) festivals. Eid-us-Fitre and Eid-ul-Azha are the main festivals of Muslims. The Muslims observe these festivals with religious fervor (উদ্দীপনা), enthusiasm (উৎসাহ) and solemnity (গার্ম্বিরঝতা). The people of other religions also enjoy these festivals. The country takes a festive (উৎসবমুখর) look on these two occasions. The Hindus observe the Durga puja and Saraswati puja with religious fervor and enthusiasm. Many Muslims also enjoy these two greatest festivals of the Hindus. The Buddhists observe Maghi Purnima and the Christians observe X-mas Day with enthusiasm. The Hindus and the Muslims also enjoy these two festivals. We see that through the observance (পালন) of the religious festivals people of different castes, creeds, and religions greet one another and thus create a bond of universal (সার্বজনীন) brotherhood (ভ্রাতৃত্ব).

As a matter of fact, Bangladesh a country of communal harmony always takes pride in its communal harmony. It is now regarded as a non-communal (অসাম্প্রদায়িক) country in the world.
