Female Education
Education is the backbone of a nation. It is a blessing. It makes us worthy citizens by ensuring a perfect and harmonious (সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ) development of our inborn (জন্মগত) qualities. It is the light that removes the darkness of ignorance. It ennobles our mind and boardens our outlook.
Everybody has an equal right to education. At the time of creating man and woman God made no line of difference between them. So pursuit (অনুসরণ) of knowledge by man and woman is obligatory (বাধ্যতামূলক). Women should not be deprived of the light of education. Since women constitute (গঠন করা) half of the total population of our country, they should be given equal rights of receiving education. Some people are against female education. They argue (যুক্তি দেখানো) that if education is imparted to women, they will not perform the household (পারিবারিক) work and neglect their children and husbands.
If women do not get proper education, their latent (সুপ্ত) prospective (সম্ভাব্য) faculties will not get scope to develop. If proper education is imparted to them, they will be able to discharge their duties properly. An educated woman can educate her children nicely. Children are at impressionable (সহজে প্রভাবিত হয় এমন) age. What is taught to a child leaves an indelible (অমোচনীয়) impression on it for years to come. So if a mother is not educated, we cannot expect to have educated and ideal citizens. An educated mother knows how to bring up her children properly. She can bring up and educate her children better than an uneducated mother.
An educated woman can contribute (অবদান রাখা) a lot to the development of the country by working as a teacher or a doctor or as an engineer or as a scientist or as a banker or as a businesswoman or as a policewoman or a political leader. The country should not be deprived (বঞ্চিত) of her productive (উৎপাদনশীল) services. A truly educated woman cannot only make a contribution to national development but also perform the household (পারিবারিক) work and guide the members of her family with skill.
Therefore, female education should be free and compulsory in our country. All steps should be taken to encourage universal female education so that our country can keep pace with other developing and developed countries in the fields of science, technology, trade, commence etc. We are very glad that our government has recently taken some fruitful (ফলপ্রসূ) steps to educate our females. The govt. has declared free and compulsory education for rural (গ্রামের) girls up to class VIII. Moreover, the govt. gives a stipend to female students of schools and colleges to encourage universal (সার্বজনীন) female education.
