Importance of Learning English
English is an international language. It is very rich. It is important in every step of our livelihood (জীবিকা). It is highly related to us in this world of globalization. To adjust to the advancement in the world, we must learn English. Without this language, we cannot go forward. So the importance of learning English can’t explain at a glance.
English is the mother language of the people of England. It is also the mother tongue of the people of the U.S.A. Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Nowadays, English has crossed national borders to reach people who speak other languages. It is not confined only to its native speakers. It has now become the language of the world’s people. Now about 350 million people use English as a first language. Another 300 million use it as a second language. English is now the official or semi-official (আধা সরকারি) language of more than 60 countries. English also has attracted the demand of different international organizations and committees. For this widespread (ব্যাপক) use of English, it has got bewildering (হতবুদ্ধিকর) variety (বৈচিত্র্য). English has now become the language of the world’s people. The importance of English is immense (প্রচুর). World people depend on English more and more. With the advancement (অগ্রসর) of globalization, its importance has been realized by everyone. So the governments of the countries of the world put emphasis on learning English.
To get good jobs, learning English is highly essential. Today job advertisements demand candidates are having a standard knowledge of English. Both written and spoken English are given priority (surfers). Different multinational organizations and companies employ English-knowing people. They provide English language training to their staff. Thus both at national and international levels, English helps people to get good jobs. Again some jobs need English-knowing officers. Army officers, diplomats (কূটনীতিক), doctors, telephone operators, or foreign offices require a standard knowledge of English.
The importance of learning English is essential for students; Because English is an international standard language. So they have no alternative to English in going abroad for higher education. In the field of higher education, the necessity of English knows no bounds. Most of the books on higher education are written in English. If any student wants to go abroad for higher education, he/she must learn English. As English is the widely used and developed language, famous journals, periodicals (সাময়িকী), science fiction, etc. are published in English. Thus English plays an important role in the field of higher education. Since English is a foreign and superior language; So the importance of learning English to thrive in life and survive successfully in the world cannot be overstated.
In the field of trade and commerce, English occupies the topmost position. To run a business among foreign buyers, customers, and producers, English is vitally used. Nowadays, business is not confined to the country itself. It goes from country to country. So, English is highly essential. And with a view to the importance of learning English can’t explain to us.
English now has reached every country. To communicate with other people in the world, we need English. English helps to understand other people. English has acquired the prestige (মর্যাদা) of being a global language. It helps to create universal brotherhood (ভ্রাতৃত্ব), fellow feelings, and sympathy. In this world of globalization, people have come closer to each other. International sports personnel use English to communicate with others. English has helped the world’s people to come closer to each other. Thus to communicate with the people of other countries, English is highly essential.
Thus the importance of English is immense. Without this, we will not be able to keep pace with the modern progressive (প্রগতিশীল) world. Thus there is no alternative (বিকল্প) of learning this language. Since without English we cannot survive for a moment in this progressive and developed world, so the importance of learning English is very needed for us.
