My Favourite Poet

  • My Favourite Author
  • My Favourite Personality
  • Kazi Nazrul Islam

I have read a lot of works by many poets and authors. All have not equally impressed me. Among all, Kazi Nazrul Islam has impressed me the most. He is my favorite poet. He is my famous personality too. He is our national poet. He is also known as a rebel poet. He was a versatile writer. He wrote poetry, dramas, novels, short stories, songs, gazals, and what not. Now let us discuss why he is my favorite poet  /author/personality.

Kazi Nazrul Islam was born at Churulia in the district of Burdwan in 1899. His father was Kazi Fakir Ahmed and his mother was Zahida Khatun. His nickname (ডাকনাম) was Dukhu Miah.

He had to pass his early life through much hardship (কষ্ট). He had to run his family after his father’s death. He was not at all attentive to his studies when he was a primary school student. He was restless (অস্থির). He was a teacher in the village of Muktab. He was also a Muazzin. He started writing in his early life. He joined a musical party called ‘Leto’. He wrote many songs for the party. He flew from home at the age of twelve. He was a baker’s boy for some time. A Muslim sub-inspector sent him to his village for education. But Nazrul left his education and joined an ‘Opera party’.

He joined the army during the First World War. Then he came to Kolkata and wrote the famous poem ‘Bidrohi. This poem brought him much name and fame. He published a magazine from here. Its name was ‘Dhumketu’. His so many famous poems were published in this magazine. But the British rulers sent him to jail for writing the poem ‘Agami’.

My favorite poet (Kazi Nazrul Islam) was a versatile genius (বহু বিষয় পণ্ডিত). He was an extremely gifted poet. So, there was spontaneity (স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত) in his works. His famous works are Agnibina, Bisher Bashi, Sarbahara, Badhanhara, Dolanchapa, etc. His Islamic gajals are very popular and incomparable (অতুলনীয়). He has made a significant contribution to our freedom. His poetry inspired our freedom fighters. His fiery songs were played from the ‘Shadhin Bangla Betar.

The poet had been suffering from an incurable (দুরারোগ্য) disease. He could not speak. After long suffering, he died in 1976. His body lies beside the Dhaka University Mosque.

Nazrul was freedom-loving. He wanted exploitation (শোষণ) free society. He was against all injustice and oppression. He wanted harmony between the Muslims and the Hindus. He was a poet of humanity (মানবতা). His contribution to Bangla literature cannot be described in words. We all respect him.
