Seasons of Bangladesh


Two months make a season. As the year consists of 12 months, there are six seasons in Bangladesh. These are: the summer, the rainy season, the autumn, the late autumn, the winter and the spring.Baishakh and Jaistha of Bengali calendar are the summer months. It is the season of scorching (দগ্ধকারী) heat. It is the season of drought (অনাবৃষ্টি), perspiration (ঘাম) and thirst (তৃষ্ণা). The sun is so hot that sometimes it may be very difficult to do any work. Schools and colleges remain closed for a few days during this season. Canals and ponds dry up. The villagers have to suffer much from the scarcity of drinking water. Cholera breaks out in some places of the country. Sometimes nor’wester hits our land. Summer gives us mangoes, lychees and jackfruits. Different seasons gives us different fruits & for those reasons the seasons of Bangladesh really looks awesome.

The rainy season follows summer. The rainy season comprises the months of Asharh and Sraban. During this season, the sky remains cloudy, and it rains day and night. Rivers, tanks, ponds, canals and low fields are full of water. Sometimes excessive (অতিরিক্ত) rain causes flood. People need boats in the flood affected areas. Malaria and dysentery break out in some places of the country during this season. Some flowers like kadam, hasnahena, ketoki and kamini bloom in this season. Rain helps the farmers to plant rice.

Autumn is comprised of the Bengali months of Vadra and Aswin. Dark clouds are not found in autumn. Only white and light patches of cloud sometimes float here and there in the sky. There is still rain. But the land gradually dries up during this season. Nature becomes clean. Sheuli blooms during autumn. Dew (শিশির) begins to drop at the end of this season. And for that reasons the autumn is called the queen of seasons of Bangladesh & most of the people likes the season very much.

Kartik and Agrahayan are the period of late autumn. It is the period of harvesting crops. The farmers are highly charmed to look at the paddy field. The climate begins to change, and people feel that winter is near. Paush and Magh are the months of winter. People feel bitter cold during this time. Sometimes foggy weather prevails (বিরাজ করা) in the country. The sun is not seen in the morning due to dense fog. People shiver (কাঁপা) with cold. Poor people suffer much from cold. Vegetables are available (প্রাপ্য) in winter. Many people make gur from date juice. The season of winter is called the suffer of seasons of Bangladesh because this winter brings a lot of suffer for the poor.

Spring comes last. Falgun and Chaitra are known as the spring It is the season of flowers. Flowers bloom in many trees and this looks beautiful. Bees make humming sound. They fly (উড়ে বেড়ানো) from flowers to flowers to collect honey. The cuckoo sings in spring. New leaves grow in the trees. With the end of the spring, the seasons in Bangladesh (Seasons of Bangladesh) take a complete cycle.

Every season has its special characteristics. Each season declares the advent of something new. This seasonal variety makes our life charming. So, the seasons of Bangladesh makes different taste & various changes of our life & the people of Bangladesh enjoy its so much.
