Technical Education
Education means systematic training and instruction especially of the young in schools and colleges or in other educational institutions. Basic education of the students in schools and colleges does not create useful and skilled manpower. Technical education not only gives basic education but also trains one how to apply theoretical knowledge in practical field. General education prepares a youth especially for clerical jobs. Most of the educational institutions of the country are working for the implementation (কাজে পরিণত করা) of general education. A large number of graduates of our country coming out every year from the colleges cannot earn enough to keep body and soul together. So general education creates severe unemployment problem in the country. But technical education makes skilled (দক্ষতা) hands. It also helps a person to earn easily.
There are many branches of technical education. These are: engineering, commercial, medical, agricultural, industrial and mining. Besides, we have courses on tourism, driving, hotel management, sericulture (গুটি পোকার চাষ), civil aviation, hatchery (ডিম ফুটাইবার বা তা দিবার স্থান), animal husbandry (কৃষি), fisheries, nursery, tailoring, midwifery (f) etc. All these courses deal with the study and practical work of a student.
Technical education can easily solve the unemployment problem of a country. But many people do not understand it. They like general education. Because they think that the work of a technically educated man is ignoble. But this idea is completely wrong. The dignity (মান/মর্যাদা) of labour depends on the way of work and a man of technical education works very honestly.
Ours is a developing country. She depends mostly on agriculture. But Bangladesh needs industrial revolution now. She needs thousands of technicians for the rapid and overall development. As our country is a populous one, she can export many technicians to the foreign countries. In this way she can be economically powerful in future. Countries of the Far East have become rich by giving importance to technical education. Our government has given preference to technical education in our country. If we can evaluate (মূল্যায়ন করা) the technical education properly, we can be developed in course of time. So, it is our foremost duty to encourage technical education in our country.
In order to become self-sufficient (আত্মনির্ভরশীল), we must give priority (অগ্রাধিকার) over technical education. The teaching of technical courses should begin from the secondary stage. The number of vocational, technical and commercial institutes should be increased for this purpose. If we are technically educated, we will be able to improve ourselves in future and Bangladesh will be a prosperous (সমৃদ্ধশালী) nation.
