Paragraph : Flood

Flood

Overflow of water on land is called flood. During the monsoon (মৌসুমি বায়ু) period it rains in torrents (অবিরামভাবে) in Bangladesh. So, almost every year flood visits our country. It can be both a blessing (আর্শীবাদ) and a curse (অভিশাপ) for us. The main causes of flood in our country are heavy downpour (বৃষ্টিপাত) and the rain water that flows from the rivers of India down into our rivers. Flood damages our life and property (সম্পত্তি), Houses are destroyed, cattle (গবানি গৃহপালিত পশু) are washed away (ভাসিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া), crops are damaged and trees are uprooted (উপরে যাওয়া). Thousands of people become homeless (গৃহহীন) and shelter less (আশ্রয়হীন). The floods of 1988, 1998, 2004 and 2007 caused a great damage to our lives and national economy (জাতীয় অর্থনীতি). Water level (পানি স্তর) rose very high. The whole country went under water. The havoc (ক্ষয়ক্ষতি) was so great that it took a long time to repair (পূরণ করা) the losses (ক্ষতি). Almost (প্রায়) all the crops were damaged. The miseries (দুঃখ দুর্দশা) of the affected (ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত) people knew no bounds. As a boon (আর্শীবাদ) floods make the land fertile (উর্বর) by carrying a great deal of silt (পলি). As a result, (ফলে) crops grow in plenty (প্রচুর). Flood also washes the dirt (ময়লা) away and makes our environment fresh (সতেজ) and free from pollution. We get sufficient fish during flood. But after flood, people suffer from diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery (আমাশয়) and typhoid. The government should take proper steps (কার্যকর পদক্ষেপ) to control floods. As a part of the steps rivers should be re-excavated (পুনঃ খনন) and good drainage system (নিষ্কাশন ব্যবস্থা) should be introduced (শুরু করা) as early as possible (যত তাড়াতাড়ি সম্ভব).
